On March 13, renowned author, speaker and founder of the Sexual Recovery Institute Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, will speak at a complimentary workshop on sex addiction in gay men at The Center on Halsted in Chicago.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) Feb. 28, 2013 – On March 13, Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, founder of the Sexual Recovery Institute, Director of Intimacy and Sexual Disorders Services at both The Ranch in Tennessee and Promises Treatment Centers in California, and author of Cruise Control: Understanding Sex Addiction in Gay Men, will speak at a complimentary workshop for clinicians, physicians, health care organizations and the recovery community. The workshop will take place from 12 to 4:30 p.m. at The Center on Halsted, a community center in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood that is dedicated to strengthening the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community.
Titled “Cruise Control Revisited: Understanding Sex Addiction in Gay Men,” this workshop will address common myths related to sex addiction as well as the influence of social media, smartphone apps and other evolving digital technologies on sexual behavior. Mr. Weiss will also review the frequently intersecting issues of sex and stimulant abuse (cocaine, meth and “party drugs”). Attendees will gain insight into the sex addiction diagnosis along with resources for recovery.
Joining Mr. Weiss will be nationally recognized mental health and addictions expert Jeff Zacharias, LCSW, CAADC, RDDP. His presentation, “Addiction and the LGBTQI Community – Understanding the Intersection Between the Two,” will explore the issues fueling the high rates of addiction in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, and Intersex (LGBTQI) population. In addition, attendees will learn evidence-based practices for treating addiction in this population.
