For some people, incorporating spiritual beliefs and practices into treatment is the most effective way to recover from addictions and other mental health disorders. At Elements Behavioral Health, we offer a variety of faith-based programs. Some of our treatment centers have specialized programming for Christians and accommodations for Jewish clients, as well as Native-American spiritual traditions like sweat lodge and a medicine wheel.
Some therapy methods focus on healing the mind, while others place great importance on physical health and wellness in order to promote mental health. Faith-based programs nurture the spirit as well.
In a faith-based program, your therapist draws on religion or spirituality to complement your therapeutic work. They may incorporate religious texts, prayer and services as part of treatment.
Your therapist will begin by getting to know you and your past experiences, current concerns and future goals. Working from a foundation of faith, your therapist will guide you in reflection, gaining new perspectives, asking for forgiveness and finding forgiveness within yourself. Your therapist will also help you to identify specific behaviors you wish to change and offer solutions for making those changes in a tangible way.
A faith-based approach can be applied to virtually any behavioral health concern, including:
Furthermore, faith-based programs do not have to be mutually exclusive to other therapies. Your therapist can help to guide you spiritually while you also explore therapies like adventure therapy and psychodrama. Many find that a combination of faith-based and traditional approaches offers the best of both worlds.
Everyone needs to be comfortable in expressing their true self to their therapist. With a faith-based program, your religious views will not only be respected, but also incorporated into the program for a comprehensive healing experience.
