The Ranch – Eating Disorders
Located on a serene ranch in Nunnelly, Tennessee, our eating disorders program is designed for women ages 18 and up who are struggling with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and other eating disorders.
As part of our small community model, clients eat and live together and participate in a full range of therapeutic activities as a group. Eating disorder clients reside in an intimate, home-like environment where they receive support and feedback from others who are struggling with similar issues.
Treatment at The Ranch is tailored to the unique needs of every client, taking into account their emotional, spiritual and physical development. Because eating disorders frequently occur along with depression, anxiety, trauma and addiction, clients receive comprehensive care that addresses all of these areas. Clients in need of ongoing support and structure find our extended care program an ideal setting for continued growth.
The Ranch offers a highly effective combination of conventional and alternative therapies to rebuild women’s self-esteem and restore healthy relationships. Under the guidance of experienced therapists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, a physician and a registered dietitian, patients participate in the following:
- Comprehensive assessments and psychiatric evaluation
- Individual, group and family therapy
- Nutritional counseling
- Pre- and post-meal processing groups
- Mindful eating
- Restaurant outings and group dinners
- Yoga and meditation
- Body image groups
- Spiritual development and wellness groups
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Adventure therapy
- Equine therapy
- 12-Step meetings
- Family program
A hands-on, experiential approach informs all types of treatment at The Ranch. Our goal is to equip clients with skills for real-world living. Rather than hiding from “fear foods” or “binge foods,” clients plan their menus and prepare meals with guidance from a nutritionist. In this way, clients are prepared to face the stresses of daily life when they go back home.
Spirituality is another important part of eating disorder treatment at The Ranch. Clients attend 12-Step meetings and have the opportunity to develop new insights in a Native American sweat lodge ceremony, medicine wheel and labyrinth. We believe that nature has the power to heal and schedule time for personal reflection and meditation on the rolling hills of our property.
