Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 2, 2013 – Greg Skipper, MD, the Director of Professional Health Services at Promises Treatment Centers, co-authored an article on physician impairment that was pre-published online in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) on April 29, 2013. JAMA, established in 1883, is among the most influential and prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals today.
The article, titled “Identification of Physician Impairment,” highlights the importance of early detection of physician impairment to better protect patients and the lack of safeguards in medicine compared to other fields, such as the airline industry. Dr. Skipper points out in the article that Physician Health Programs, currently established in most states, are designed to protect the public through earlier detection of potential impairment. Dr. Skipper’s co-authors included Julius Cuong Pham, MD, PhD, and Peter Pronovost, MD, PhD, both of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
