The Daring Way™

The Daring Way™ shame resilience curriculum holds powerful lessons for anyone who wants to live freely and authentically. We have found that it is particularly beneficial for people with addictions, depression, anxiety and other mental health disorders.

Based on the research and insights of Dr. Brené Brown, a professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, best-selling author and renowned TED Talks speaker, The Daring Way™ shame resilience curriculum teaches self-compassion and acceptance. It also shows the power of being vulnerable and authentic, both of which can be especially challenging for people with addictions and mental health disorders.

How It Works

As part of The Daring Way™ curriculum, clients are introduced to Dr. Brown’s 10 Guideposts for Wholehearted Living, which stress the importance of cultivating:

  1. Authenticity
  2. Self-compassion
  3. Resiliency of spirit
  4. Gratitude and joy
  5. Intuition, trust and faith
  6. Creativity
  7. Playfulness and relaxation
  8. Calm and stillness
  9. Meaningful work
  10. Laughter, song and dance

Counselors trained in The Daring Way™ methodology act as facilitators, helping clients develop new skills and healthier ways of thinking and living.

The Daring Way™ Philosophy

Shame and feelings of worthlessness can form hidden undercurrents that swirl beneath the surface of our destructive behaviors. Too often we seek to protect ourselves from shame by adopting psychological and emotional avoidance strategies such as substance abuse.

The Daring Way™ shame resilience curriculum teaches people how to live bravely. It shows them how to develop empathy and compassion for themselves and others. Learning to embrace challenges instead of avoiding them, our clients are better able to make healthy choices and live wholeheartedly, without substances or other destructive behaviors.
